Sodium Carboxy Methyl Cellulose

CARMECEL is the trade name of Sodium Carboxy Methyl Cellulose. It is often called as CMC and one of the principal products of the water soluble polymers group. It is wide spread as its various properties have become more extensively appreciated. CARMECEL is an odour less, taste less and non-toxic, white to cream powder having 10% moisture (max). It is highly soluble in water of all temperatures but dissolves faster in hot water than cold water. It is stable to hard water, alkalies, acids and certain electrolytes. However multivalent metal ions and certain complex tend to precipitate CARMECEL from solution. The solution of CARMECEL is comparatively resistant for microbial attack compared to many natural products.

Generally CARMECEL acts as Thickening Agent, Binder, Flow Control Agent, Suspending and Stabilizing dispersions, Retard crystallization, Water retention property, Absorbs into a surface of minerals and other particles, Protecting colloids and Adhesive properties etc
